What is meditation and how to meditate?

Meditation and concentration are the way to a life of serenity.
– Baba Ram Dass
Today, we’re going to learn how to meditate. And some of you may say, “Oh, no! I don’t know how to do that” and “This is for weird people”.
But that’s not true. Meditation really helped me to connect to myself.
I just want to clarify one point before we continue. I am a Muslim. And I do my prayers every day, and I meditate as well.
Because meditation and prayers are two different things. And it’s important to do both.
Meditation is to connect with yourself and prayers are to connect with God.
And I think that our generation did not really know how to connect with ourselves. Especially in my community.
I started to meditate three years ago because I felt the benefit of it once I really started to practice.
Again, I am not a coach or a meditation instructor. I am just sharing with you my experience and what I’ve learned.
And, trust me, it’s so easy. There are only two steps. So, if I could do it, you can do it, as well.
What is meditation?
First of all…
What is the meaning of the word “meditation”?
It means many different things to many different people. For some people, it’s peace of mind and for others – it’s an escape from the reality around us.
If we take the root of the word “meditation”, we can see that it is really similar to the word “medication”.
And “medication” means something to cure the sickness.
So, meditation is also a cure. But a cure for the sickness of the mind.
It’s something that will affect the change in your mind and the body, like medication does with your body.
Meditation is not only bringing you peace and calm temporarily. This can be a permanent state and change completely the way you live.
Meditation can bring you to a natural state of calm, relaxation, and happiness.
But don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that meditation will procure you peace and calm right away. It needs to be done every day for at least 21 days to really feel the effect of it.
You need to teach and train your brain like everything.
For example, if you had a bad accident, you will need to reeducate yourself to be able to walk again. You will train your brain every day, slowly, to learn to walk before you start running. And you will run faster if you learn how to walk before that.
What I mean here is that you were happy at least one time in your life. So you can definitely reach that point again. With meditation and other things, of course. But let’s start today with meditation.
How to meditate
I will show you the two steps to a better life.
Step 1: Find a comfortable seat
It doesn’t matter how you cross your legs. You can even meditate in a sleeping position.
The most important thing is that your back is straight.
If you are a beginner, don’t put pressure on yourself. Do what is good for you.
Now, look straight and close your eyes.
Once you find your comfortable position, stay like this because you can’t move while you meditate.
And again, don’t worry. You will slowly find your best position. Don’t forget that you are a beginner. It’s okay to make mistakes. You will learn from them.
So, now please relax.
Step 2: Attention to breathing
Breathe in from your nose and breath out from your mouth.
I have two little techniques for you.
Because breathing is very important and it deserves a full post and video on that.
The first technique is to put your fingers on your belly so that when you breathe in they go away from each other. And when you breathe out, they come back together.
This is how you should breathe.
And the other technique is, when I breathe in I say, “I breathe in calm, peace, happiness.” And when I breathe out I say, “I breathe out stress, fear, anger.”
Now, put your hands on your belly to feel your breathing.
If your mind starts to think about something else, just come back to your breathing.
Breathe in calm, peace, happiness…
Breathe out stress, fear, anger…
Keep concentrating on your breathing.
Breathe and concentrate on your belly. It’s also like a massage for your internal organs.
Be completely aware of the sensation. And think that everything you do now is for you… To be better.
So, continue breathing…
Again, if your mind thinks about something else, just feel your hand on your belly and be conscious about your breathing.
So, let me recap for you:
The first step is to find a comfortable seat.
Step two is breathing.
I hope that this will help you find inner peace and let you slowly do everything you dream about in your life.

Finally, and most importantly…
Don’t forget to always love the way you are. You are unique, remember…
