The Preconceptions: Why I Initially Resisted Bedtime Reading (and probably you, too)

Before I was like you… “Reading before bed, really? It’s for boring people and for old people.” Or “Do I look like a kid? Read me a story before bed, Daddy.”

But that was before. Because when I started reading before bed, I realized that it was affecting my brain. In a good way, of course.

The Positive Impact on the Mind: Stress Reduction and Escapism

Bedtime reading reduces stress.

When you are reading a book, your mind is relaxed and not distracted by stress and tension. And what I like the most, and for me that’s priceless, when you read, you can be somewhere else for a little while. That’s magical.

Reading also relaxes your muscles and slows down your breathing. I personally started to read again the Quran before I go to sleep. It’s giving me answers.

Boosting Your Brain Power: Training the Mind’s Muscle

Reading before bed can boost your brain power.

While reading you can be anywhere you want with your amazing imagination.

I feel that our generation does not have the opportunity to think by themselves. We are addicted to our phones, we are addicted to Netflix, etc.

We don’t have enough time to think or imagine things because our brain is always busy and distracted.

So, reading can boost your brain because your brain, as you know, is a muscle. You have to just train it with the right things.

Nurturing Creativity Through Imagination

Reading before bed improves creativity.

When you are imagining, you are creating your own version of the story of the book with beautiful images, forms, colours, etc.

This is why instead of putting a child in front of a TV, take that moment to read him or her a story before he or she sleeps. I actually love doing that with my nephew and niece. They love it and I love it too.

The Connection Between Reading and Sleep

Finally, reading makes you sleep.

It’s simple logic. Your eyes and muscles are moving quickly. They have to scan everything on the page. So your body becomes tired. Even if there are small movements, there are still movements.

So, it makes you tired and want to sleep.

When you start feeling drowsy, play a sleep meditation to ensure you have the deepest, most restful sleep.

And, you can use the 3-hour sleep meditation that comes with our Cocon pillow mist. It includes positive affirmations and solfeggio music to help you fully relax and have the best sleep ever.

Reading before bed is amazing and does amazing things for your brain.

In today’s digital age, it’s easy to overlook the simple yet profound benefits of diving into a book before sleep. From stimulating our minds, and nurturing creativity, to providing an escape from everyday stressors, bedtime reading serves as an enriching practice.

Pair that with a sleep meditation, and you’re on your way to rejuvenating nights and brighter mornings.

So, before reaching for that remote or phone tonight, consider picking up a book and rediscovering the magic it brings.

And remember, in a world bustling with distractions, taking time for oneself is not just a luxury, but a necessity. Embrace reading before bed, and let it transform your nights into serene journeys of discovery.
